Summary: Performs routine mechanical work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, waterborne vessels, surface ships and/or submarines. Tasks will be related to inspections, repairs, modernization and/or alterations.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Proficient in the use of precision measurement equipment including scales, vernier calipers, micrometers and torque wrenches
2. Experienced with use of torque wrench extensions and multipliers
3. Proficient in the use of portable drill presses
4. Performs disconnects and connections of mechanical joints.
5. Removes and installs various equipment using sound engineering practices.
6. Overhauls various pumps and valves
7. Ability to trouble shoot and determine faulty equipment, determine cause of malfunction and determine best repair method.
8. Hydrostatically tests pumps, valves and piping.
9. Have the ability to read and follow technical manuals for various equipment
10. Fills our objective quality evidence (OQE) forms
11. May lead small team of mechanics
12. Performs duties as Firewatch
13. Assists with cleaning up work area.
14. Employee may be required to travel for work to other locations

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Math Ability:
Requires basic math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, division and fractions
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: Must possess basic computer skills to enter data into different data basis.
Education/Experience:
Must have completed a formal related course of study in trade through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprentice program and must have 5-10 years of verifiable experience as a mechanic in an industrial environment i.e., shipbuilding, ship repair or nuclear power plants.
Certificates and Licenses:
Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:
1. Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions and manuals.
2. Must possess working knowledge of shipboard systems operating requirements.
3. Must be able to read and understand material safety data sheets (MDS).
4. Able to follow safety procedures.
