Job Description

Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks an experienced Grants Manager to work at its headquarters in downtown Atlanta. Founded in 1924, our non-profit law firm represents low-income people in a variety of civil legal matters, including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education, and health law, primarily in a five-county service area (Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett Counties). Our clients and their legal issues are diverse and numerous. Legal Aid employs over 150 staff in five county offices, five medical facilities, and numerous units, programs, and projects.

As a member of the Development Team, the Grants Manager reports to the Senior Director of Development. This position is responsible for overseeing the non-government grants process, encompassing grant writing and managing funder relationships. Essential skills for this role include strong writing, data analysis, program budgeting, and project management, with a particular focus on outcome measurement. 

  Responsibilities:

  • Managing active non-government grants to ensure compliance with requirements, including calendaring, periodic reports, and re-application deadlines.
  • Developing compelling funding proposals, letters of interest, and non-government grant application narratives, including budget creation, in collaboration with program staff, finance, and the Executive Director.
  • Submitting grant applications via paper or online portals and maintaining a list of passwords.
  • Meeting with funders and Legal Aid staff to explore funding opportunities and fulfill site visit requirements.
  • Maintaining a master calendar of grants and prospects, and all associated files and correspondence.
  • Collaborating with communications and marketing staff to implement development-related communications and outreach, and ensure communications support strategic objectives. Write and/or edit high-level communications, as needed.
  • Partnering effectively with program managers and the finance team to monitor and report allocation of restricted foundation giving.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, and/or grants management.
  • Demonstrated success in applying for and maintaining major public and private grants.
  • Experience in research, planning, and strategic thinking, and demonstrated creativity for matching a program’s work with potential funding sources.
  • Track record of successfully securing significant grants.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for meeting personally with donors.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to deadlines without sacrificing quality.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, relational, and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse constituency and people at all levels.
  • Appreciation for and commitment to Legal Aid’s mission.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines independently.
  • Proficient computer skills, including with Excel, Sales Force; familiarity with Legal Server is a plus.
  • Experience managing large federal grants is highly valued.

Salary and Benefits:  

  • The annual salary is $68,000. The salary offered may increase or decrease depending on the actual, relevant experience of the selected candidate.
  • Salaries are reviewed and adjusted annually, depending on funding.
